VoterEquality.org is my attempt to help inform the discussion about choosing a new electoral system for Canada.
I was a member of the British Columbia Citizen’s Assembly on Electoral Reform. The BC CA was a year long process involving 160 randomly chosen voters. We met for almost a year, learning about electoral systems, consulting with the public, deliberating and deciding on an electoral system to recommend to our fellow voters in BC.
We came to the conclusion that BC-STV would best meet the democratic aspirations of British Columbians. Almost 58% of BC voters agreed with our recommendation. Unfortunately, the referendum was designed by the BC Legislature to fail. They set a double 60% threshold for the referendum to pass.
