Submissions to the Ontario Citizens’ Assembly

These are a few documents I prepared to help the Ontario Citizens’ Assembly in their deliberations. At a very early stage of their deliberations, they seemed to eliminate STV as a potential electoral system for Ontario.

It was my opinion at the time that they had seen the BC experience as a failure. The BC referendum didn’t meet the double 60% threshold. The main complaint about BC-STV was that the system was “complicated”.

Early in the OCA process, they adopted “Simplicity” as an electoral value. They then proceeded to develop MMP and MMM models for consideration, but not STV. This development was very concerning to me.
